Privacy Policy

RoomSighter is a real-time assistive-navigation app. This policy explains, plainly, what data the website and iOS app actually collect, why, and who else ever sees it. If something below changes, this page's date changes too.
What we collect
Account information. Signing in is required to use the live demo (iOS app and website); we use sign-ins to count how many people use RoomSighter. You can sign in via Apple, Google, or email — all handled by our authentication provider, Clerk, which stores your email address, name if provided, and sign-in method. We keep only an internal reference to your Clerk account on our own server — not a copy of your email or name.
Live detection data. Every detection cycle from the live demo (web or iOS) logs the detected class, confidence score, bounding box, image dimensions, estimated distance/direction, and timing — used to measure and improve the model. These rows are not linked to your account; they're anonymous usage data, not tied to who was signed in when they were generated.
Your settings and session history (signed-in users). So that the app works the same on every device you sign in on, we save your own settings (the safety layer level, voice speed, how early warnings come, and which non-critical classes you muted) and, for each live-demo run, a short summary: when it started, how long it lasted, how many detection cycles ran, the average speed, how many announcements were made and which classes were announced most. These are linked to your account and shown only to you (in the Dashboard, in the iOS app and on the website). They never contain images, camera frames, boxes or locations. You can delete a session, or all of them, at any time, and deleting your account deletes them too.
Performance summaries. Aggregate timing/FPS statistics and basic device info (e.g. browser user agent) for each demo session — also not linked to your account.
Page views (website only). Which page you visited and the referring page, logged on every page load so we know how much traffic the site gets and which pages are used. Not linked to your account and no IP address is stored.
Camera frames. In the iOS app, object detection and distance estimation both run entirely on your device: no video and no camera frame ever leaves your phone. On the website, object detection runs in your browser, and one downscaled frame per detection cycle is sent to our distance-estimation server to compute how far away something is. That frame is processed in memory and discarded immediately; it is never saved to disk or a database.
What we don't do
- No advertising, and no third-party analytics or ad-tracking scripts.
- We don't sell or rent your data to anyone.
- We don't store video or raw camera frames.
Who else sees it
A short, complete list of every third party involved in running this app:
- Clerk, Inc. — authentication (manages sign-in, your account credentials and session).
- Supabase our database, where detection telemetry and your internal account reference are stored.
- Apple — if you use Sign in with Apple.
- Google — if you use Google sign-in (via Clerk).
- Amazon Web Services — hosts our backend, website, and distance-estimation service.
Your choices
You can delete your account at any time from within the iOS app (Dashboard, then Delete account) — this removes your settings, your session history, our internal reference to your account and your account with Clerk. You can also delete single sessions or your whole history without deleting the account. The live demo requires being signed in to access it, but the detection telemetry it generates is collected anonymously and isn't linked to your account identity, so it isn't affected by account deletion one way or the other.
Children
RoomSighter is intended for general audiences and is not restricted to adults. The anonymous detection telemetry and site usage analytics described above are never linked to a user's identity, regardless of the user's age. Creating an account to access the live demo does require a first and last name and email address, handled by our authentication provider, Clerk; we recommend that children under 13 only create an account with the involvement of a parent or guardian.
